After a marathon probe of co-operative housing socities in Indore city, the district administration has made available plots to 4,558 people who had not got a piece of land for years despite being legal members of these societies. The district administration probed 56 co-operative societies, out of which 33 societies provided plots to 4,558 members, official sources said.
Because of the government drive, 12 societies returned Rs 5.58 crore to people who had depositied their money for a piece of land to construct their dream home but did not get the same. After the probe, criminal cases were registered against 137 office bearers of 12 such societies for indulging in gross irregularities.
