Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has bagged a contract worth €32.5 million or Rs 2,650 million to supply gas turbines for a State-owned Kochi Refinery's 103.5 mw combined heat and power (CHP) plant. BHEL got the contract by winnig it in a fierce international bidding competition, said the country's power plant equipment manufacturer.
The refinery's CHP plant, under construction, is a captive power plant, due to operate in isolation from India's national grid, which suffers from chronic blackouts.
Another order from BPCL for three gas turbines of 34.5 mw rating each, including auxiliaries and control systems. Once operational, the gas turbines will work in a cogeneration system to meet and process steam and power needs at the refinery.
