For construction of an ultra mega power plant (UMPP) in coastal Bhadrak district of Orissa, the the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has said that it has no-objection. Power Finance Corporation (PFC) is building the UMPP in Bhadrak district of Orissa.
The Orissa government had earlier asked the PFC, the nodal agency for implementation of UMPPs, to seek DRDO’s nod for the 4000-megawatt project at Bijayapatna village of Chandbali tehsil in Bhadrak. With this project, the state will have three UMPPs.
In a letter to the State government on September 5, the additional director of Integrated Test Range of DRDO conveyed that the agency has no objection to the UMPP.
Though the location of the proposed UMPP is far away from the Wheeler’s Island off Bhadrak coast, the State government had advised the PFC to seek DRDO clearance to avoid any problem as it had happened in case of Bahabalpur Port development project.
The DRDO had opposed port projects at Inchudi, Chandipur, Bahabalpur (all three in Balasore district) and Chudamani in Bhadrak district citing security reasons.
