Govt encourages solar plants in Delhi colonies

The Union government is encouraging those who want to set up solar power plants in various colonies of Delhi. Under the Off-grid and Decentralized Solar Application scheme of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, the Ministry provides a subsidy of 30 per cent of the project cost ranging from Rs 42 to Rs 72 per watt peak for off-grid standalone solar photovoltaic (SPV) power plants.

This was informed by the Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Farooq Abdullah in the Rajya Sabha recently. Such plants should have module capacity upto 100 kw depending on their capacity and configuration in general category states including Delhi to avail the subsidy.

Under the scheme, the Ministry is also providing a capital subsidy of 30 per cent of the cost of the system subject to maximum of Rs 81 per watt peak for installation of solar street lighting systems, solar home lighting systems and solar lanterns in the country including the settlement colonies, the Minister said.
