For Kochi city in Kerala, Rs 900-crore Kalamassery drinking water project is likely to be considered by the Centre under its Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) scheme. The authorities concerned in the state have already sought to include the second phase of Vyttila Mobility Hub under the JNNURM.
The Kalamassery drinking water project proposal has been mooted after Kerala Water Authority's (KWA) detailed project report (DPR) was rejected by the Union Ministry of Urban Affairs, citing technical flaws.
The project was to be funded by a foreign exchange windfall from a Rs 3,000-crore Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) loan that the KWA had availed, starting 1997.
