In Sikkim, a 25 kw micro hydroelectric project has been commissioned by Sikkim Renewable Energy Development Agency (SREDA). The project which could generate electricity for around 500 bulbs was inaugurated and officially handed over to the Village Energy Committee by Chanadra Maya Subba, MLA of Maneybong-Dentamat Hee-Bermiok on July 30.
The MLA urged the committee members to make the best use of the project, which was also an income-generation option provided to it by the government.
The pilot project could set Sikkim on course for economic self sufficiency. SREDA Director Siporah Targain in his speech encouraged the people to avail the eco-friendly and sustainable facilities being provided by the agency.
