Demanding the Mangalore port authorities to streamline the annual checking of deep sea fishing trawlers, the Old Port Users Union staged a protest at the dock in the city on October 22. The protestors urged appointment of new incumbent officer at the port immediately.
Each fishing trawlers mandatorily should have the fitness certificate to ascertain its sea worthiness before sailing into Arabian Sea, as it saves the interests of both the trawler owner and the insurer, the protestors said.
The Vessel Owners Union has been urging the state authorities including district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai and fisheries minister Abayachandra Jain to address their grievances at the earliest.
