The National Thermal Power Corporation on March 25 announced the setting up of two solar power plants of 25 mw and 10 mw capacity in Singrauli and Unchahar respectively. The central power generation utility is already in the process of establishing an 8 mw power plant in Singrauli.
NTPC's Regional Executive Director at Lucknow, Sharad Anand said that the northern region of NTPC is working on (660x2=1320 mw) Bilhaur Super Thermal Power Project, 40 kilometres from Kanpur. Likewise in Tanda, the stage-II (660X2 = 1320 mw) extension work is also in under process.
Anand said work in 1,320 mw Meja thermal power station, which is a joint venture with UP government, is in full swing. The project happens to be a 50:50 joint venture with UP government. Another 1,320 mw is also proposed. This plant is 40 km far from Allahabad, Anand said.
The NTPC has a total installed capacity 40,674 mw. This includes 16 coal-based and seven gas-based power plant of 35,310 Mw capacity. He said that NTPC is running various corporate social responsibility schemes for the project affected persons. This include providing drinking water, health care facility, hygiene care facilities, various free health camps, like eye-camps, family planning camps, TB awareness camps, etc.
